This is my favorite hummus recipe! With just a few simple ingredients and less than 10 minutes of your time, you’ll have super creamy and flavorful homemade hummus!
What is hummus?
Hummus is a delicious spread or dip that is made from chickpeas. If you are familiar with my recipes, you know that chickpeas are one of my favorite ingredients to cook, made snacks with and yes BAKE with. But for this recipe, I stuck to savory and made my favorite hummus recipe.
Ingredients needed to make homemade hummus
Chickpeas aka garbanzo beans are the base for this hummus recipe. The softened beans breakdown in the food processor and blend into a smooth creamy paste.
Olive oil is so important for this recipe. I recommend investing in a high quality olive oil. Trust me, you will taste the difference. I really like the organic extra virgin Spanish Olive Oil from Trader Joe’s. I always pick one up at the store if i’m running low.
Fresh juice from a lemon. You want to make sure that it is from a lemon and not the can. Fresh ingredients make all the difference. Plus, you won’t have any extra added preservatives, only the good stuff.
Fresh garlic add a little spice and zest. I am a huge fan of garlic. You can get away with 1 clove, but I recommend adding 2 gloves for a more distinct taste.
Ground cumin will give the hummus a rich taste. Hummus without cumin is not really hummus in my opinion.
Salt and Pepper to balance out the rest of the spices and flavors.

1 15oz can chickpeas (drained and rinsed)
2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 Tbsp lemon juice
2 garlic cloves
3/4 tsp ground cumin
1/4 tsp pink salt
1/4 tsp pepper
- Combine all ingredients in your food processor and blend until smooth and creamy. You may need to stop and scrape down the sides a few times.
- Serve with your favorite crackers or veggies!
