What is Sorghum?
Sorghum is an 8,000-year-old whole grain and superfood that’s making a comeback because it is both nutritious and environmentally friendly – and of course, it tastes great! I’ve had it in quite a few new snacks, but I’ve never tried them in air-popped chips until now. These remind me of rice cakes, but better!
Sorghum is jam packed with a ton of vitamins and nutrients. You will find magnesium, potassium, iron, protein, vitamins B and E, fiber, omega-3s, and antioxidants in these little bite-sized chips. Research shows that sorghum may protect against diabetes and insulin resistance. On top of that, it can also help manage cholesterol, and help to promote cardiovascular health.
But aside from the nutritional value found in sorghum, producing it is also environmentally friendly. Sorghum is as good for the Earth as it is for us. It’s sustainable and drought-resistant. Why? Because sorghum uses only a fraction of the resources that other grains require to product. It’s a win-win all around.
More about Pop Bitties
All of the Pop Bitties flavors, including Hickory Barbeque, are corn and gluten-free! They’re made with whole grain sorghum, brown rice, quinoa, and chia! The Hickory Barbeque has a sweet and savory taste that will have you reaching for more and more (I know I am!). The texture is light but crunchy, and with each bite you can really taste the natural smoky hickory flavor.

Pink Himalayan Salt
The Pink Himalayan Salt is the perfect go-to chip when you want something traditional. It’s the perfect plant-based dipping chip as it doesn’t have too strong of a flavor, so it can be paired with just about any dip! A classic!
Vegan Sour Cream & Onion
Vegan Sour Cream & Onion is a great twist on a classic. The flavor is superb. Like the other Pop Bitties flavors, there are no artificial ingredients- which is something that is really important to me. I also love that they are vegan, making them suitable for any lifestyle!
Maple Sea Salt
I saved the best for last: Maple & Sea Salt. It’s no secret that I have a mega sweet tooth. I really love the balance of sweet and savory in the Maple & Sea Salt. This flavor is very nostalgic for me; it reminds me of something (can’t quite put my finger on it!) that I used to snack on as a kid. The first bite is sweet, then it’s balanced out by a salty aftertaste.
How to snack on Pop Bitties?
Snacking has never been easier! You can snack on Pop Bitties right out of the bag, but for a more filling and nutritious snack, I love to make a dip to go with them. I created a super creamy hummus to pair with the Hickory Barbeque, Pink Himalayan Salt, or Vegan Sour Cream & Onion varieties. (I’ll save the Maple & Sea Salt for dessert!)
What’s in the creamy hummus?
- lemon juice
- olive oil
- ground cumin
- ice cubes
If you read that last ingredient and are like, what the heck, Hannah? ICE CUBES? Hear me out, okay? The ice cubes really break down the rest of the ingredients and allow the hummus to be SO DANG CREAMY. Just like the restaurant! This recipe is so creamy and pairs PERFECTLY with the Pop Bitties chips!
