Ingredients for this simple and delicious Cheese Danish recipe

  • cream cheese- can use dairy or non-dairy cream cheese
  • egg yolk- gives the filling a creamy texture and helps the cream cheese from not spreading during baking time
  • cane sugar- helps sweeten up the danishes
  • vanilla- adds a lovely flavor
  • fresh juicy grapes- add both color, texture and flavor
  • frozen puff pastry- frozen puff pastry works best for this recipe, simply let them thaw on the counter for 45 minutes before using.
  • egg wash- I use the leftover egg whites and brush it over the pastry before baking time to help give the danishes a lovely golden brown color

Tools you will need

You won’t need anything fancy to make these cheese danish. I recommend using an electric mixer to really combine the ingredients for the cream cheese filling, however, you can also mix it by hand if you don’t have one!

Ingredients

  • Cream Cheese Filling
  • 8oz cream cheese, at room temperature

  • 1 egg yolk

  • 1/3 cup cane sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • Puff Pastry
  • 2 frozen puff pastry

  • 1 egg white, for egg white wash

  • Extras
  • grape jelly

  • fresh grapes

Directions

  • Thaw puff pastry according to package instructions. Preheat oven to 350F and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or a silicon baking mat.
  • In an electric mixer, combine softened cream cheese, sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla extract. Beat together on medium/high speed until creamy and smooth.
  • Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheets onto a clean working surface. Then, use a pizza cutter to slice into 4 equal parts. Place on the prepared baking sheet.

  • Next, using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, scoop cream cheese filling and drop directly in the center of each puff pastry square.
  • Then, using the egg white, dip the basting brush and outline each square with the wash. Next, take each corner and fold it in twice until each corner touches the filling.
  • Option to add grape jelly to the cheese filling, and then brush the outer edges once again with the egg white wash.
  • Bake the danishes for 25-28 minutes or until tops are golden brown. Let cool slightly, then top with fresh grapes. Enjoy warm or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Enjoy within 3 days for best freshness.
