Apple Cider Donuts (vegan and gluten-free)

If you’d like for your home to smell like Fall, then you’ll love this recipe. These donuts are full of flavor and they are the fluffiest, most tender donuts I’ve ever had. Apple cider donuts are vegan and made with gluten-free flour making them acceptable to be enjoyed by most!
The donuts have a dense crumb similar to muffins, but they are moist and tender. I love their texture almost as much as I love their flavor. Although they are baked and not fried, they taste just like the donuts you’d buy fresh from a bakery shop, only more flavorful.
Ingredient list to make baked apple cider donuts
- Gluten-free flour
- Organic white sugar
- Baking powder
- Salt
- Cinnamon
- Nutmeg
- Apple pie spice
- Ground Flax
- Apple cider
- Apple sauce
- Coconut oil
For the gluten-free flour, I like to use Bob’s Red Mill blend. It’s a 1:1 swap with regular flour and it always makes my baked goods fluffy, moist and delicious. Since it’s a 1:1 swap, you can use whole-wheat flour or regular flour instead.
For the organic white sugar, I love to use Wholesome Sweeteners Organic Cane Sugar. Wholesome Sweeteners products are all Fair Trade and made from certified organic sugar cane grown in South America. The cane juice, rich in molasses, vitamins and minerals, is squeezed from fresh sugar cane, evaporated and crystallized. It’s a product that I stand behind and love to use!
For the Apple cider, make sure you are using apple cider and not apple juice. I found mine at Trader Joe’s.

How to make apple cider donuts
To make this recipe you will need two mixing bowl, measuring cups and all the ingredients listed above.
Apple cider donuts are easy and hassle free. To start, preheat the oven to 400F and spray a donut pan with non-stick spray.
In a small mixing bowl, combine all the dry ingredients:
- Gluten-free flour
- Organic white sugar
- Baking powder
- Salt
- Cinnamon
- Nutmeg
- Apple pie spice
- Ground Flax
Then, in a separate large mixing bowl, combine the wet ingredients:
- Apple cider
- Apple sauce
- Coconut oil
Add the dry ingredients to the wet and mix until just incorporated. Do not over-mix the batter. Allow it to set for 3 minutes. This allows the baking powder to get to work and will make for a fluffier donut.

Then, you will fill each donut cavity with the batter. You want to fill them up to the top.
Bake the donuts in the oven for 14 minutes at 375F. Allow them to cool for 5 minutes before removing.
Move them to a cooling rack and then make your cinnamon and sugar coating in a small bowl. To do this, simply combine cinnamon, sugar and apple pie spice. Then, dip each side of the donut in the mixture and set aside. Enjoy warm or store in the fridge up to 4 days.
