How to make this vegan gluten free apple hand pie recipe
You’re going to see just how simple this recipe is to make, you’ll be so surprised! We’ll first start by sautéing the cinnamon apples and then making the dough. Next, we will fill the dough with the honey crispy apples and then bake in the oven! It really can’t be any easier.
To start, preheat the oven to 350F and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or your favorite silicon baking mat.
Next, heat 1 teaspoon of butter, ghee or oil in a small sauté pan. Then, add in the sliced honey crispy apples and sprinkle with cinnamon. Let them simmer for about 3-5 minutes stirring occasionally. When done, remove from heat and set aside.
In a medium bowl, add in the almond butter, maple syrup and vanilla extract. Mix until ingredients are well incorporated. Then, add in the almond flour, salt and baking powder and mix until a dough starts to form. I suggest kneading with your hands to make sure the dough is really well combined.
Then, break off about 2-3 tbsp worth of the dough and roll in between the palm of your hands then flatten until it’s about 1/4″ thick in either a circle or rectangle. Fill the center with 1 tbsp of the cinnamon apples and cover the top with an additional equal size piece of dough.
Using a fork, crimp the edges together and brush the tops with melted ghee, butter or oil. Bake for 15-17 minutes, remove from the oven at let cool on the counter.
In the meantime, make the icing by combining powdered sugar and water, then drizzle on top.
Enjoy warm or store in an airtight container and enjoy within 4 days.
