Ingredients And Substitutions

These are the main ingredients and substitutions for Cottage Cheese Overnight Oats. Scroll down to the recipe card for a full list of ingredients and instructions.

This recipe uses old fashion rolled oats that are naturally gluten free. I have not tasted this recipe with quick oats as I’m sure it would totally change the structure of the recipe.

I love the brand good culture cottage cheese, it has the best flavor and texture in my opinion. I use the low-fat version, but you can use any type or any brand.

Maple syrup is one of my favorite sweeteners to use in my recipes because it’s all natural and adds a great flavor. You may use honey, agave, date syrup or even coconut sugar or cane sugar would be fine.

Chia seeds adds not only protein and omega-3’s to this recipe but it also creates a more sasiating meal by making it more filling.

Any type of milk or nut milk will work such as dairy milk, oat milk, almond milk or coconut milk.

Cinnamon adds a ton of flavor to these oats.

I like to use honey crisp apples because they are crisp, sweet and just one of my favorites. But feel free to use any type of apple that you’d like, I prefer red but green would work too.

Tips And Tricks

Blending the cottage cheese with the milk and apples creates a frothy texture that gives these oats the ultimate creamy taste.

Let oats soak for a minimum of 4 hours, but best overnight.

You can also blend apple sauce instead of whole apples if preferred.

How To Serve And Store

Serve these Cottage Cheese Overnight Oats cold with freshly chopped apples and cinnamon. You can also add on nuts like almonds, cashews, walnuts or pecans. I like to drizzle mine with a bit of almond butter too.

If you don’t like cold oats, you can also reheat them in the microwave or on the stove top.

Store oats in an airtight container, like these jars, and enjoy within 4-5 days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have the blend the cottage cheese? Or can I use it whole?

No you don’t have to blend the cottage cheese, as long as you don’t mind the chunks of cottage cheese in your oats. I do think blending them creates a better texture though.

Do I have to eat these cold, or can they be warmed up?

I prefer eating them cold, but they can definitely be enjoyed warm. Heat in the microwave or on the stovetop.

What if I don’t like the texture of overnight oats?

Try blending them! They will have a more pudding like texture that is insanely delish!
