ingredients and Substitutions
These are the main ingredients and substitutions for Lemon Poppy Seed Overnight Oats. Be sure to scroll down to the recipe card at the bottom of this page for a full list of ingredients and instructions.
For this recipe I used plain greek yogurt, but you can easily use a dairy free yogurt to make this recipe vegan. Vanilla flavored yogurt would work as well.
You can use any type of milk or nut milk alternative such as almond milk, cashew milk, hemp milk, coconut milk or even oat milk.
Use freshly squeezed lemon juice for best results, however you can also use lemon juice from the jar if needed.
Vanilla extract adds a lovely flavor to these overnight oats.
Maple syrup is my favorite natural sweetener to use in my recipes, you can sub for honey, agave or date syrup.
Ground flax adds fiber and help thicken these overnight oats up. You can sub for chia seeds or just leave it out completely.
Poppyseeds are known for aiding in digestion and also adding in some hair and skin boost benefits.
Use organic or regular old fashioned oats, quick oats will not work the same. To make this recipe gluten free, use certified gluten free oats.
For the toppings, I use fresh blueberries, granola and a lemon wedge!
how to make
ONE: Start by combining all the dry ingredients together in a bowl. Then, add in the wet ingredients and mix once more.
TWO: Cover, and store in the fridge for a minimum of 4 hours, or overnight. The next day, mix well and add on your desired toppings and enjoy!



Tips and tricks
First mix together the dry ingredients, then add in the wet.
Use an airtight container to block in the fresh ingredients.
If you don’t like the texture of overnight oats, try adding granola on top for some crunch.
How to serve and store
Serve these cinnamon roll overnight oats with a cup of coffee or smoothie. You can warm them up in the microwave the next day if you prefer eating them warm.
Store these oats in an airtight container in the fridge and enjoy within 3-5 days.

My Favorite Containers For Overnight Oats
These are the jars that are shown in the photos, they are spice jars, but work great for overnight oats.
Alternatively, you can also use weck jars, mason jars, these glass jars with plastic lids, or these glass jars with a bamboo lids.
Taste and Texture
These Lemon Poppy Seed Overnight Oats are perfectly sweet and full of zesty lemony flavor. You taste the zesty lemon, but it’s also perfectly sweet from the maple syrup.
The texture is creamy and soft. If you don’t like the texture of overnight oats you can add granola on top or you can blend them and the texture will be more like pudding. Check out my blended overnight oats recipe for directions on how to do that.

yum! i reduced the amount of milk to 1/2 a cup & added a tsp of chia seeds & flaxseeds for a thicker consistency and it was perf! blueberries and flaked almonds are a great topping, i think granola would be really good too 🙂
