Ingredients And Substitutions

These are the main ingredients and substitutions for Mini Pecan Pies. Scroll down to the recipe card for a full list of ingredients and instructions.

The base of this recipe is made with store-bought pie crust from the refrigerator section. These are different than the pie crusts that are in the tin, this is a dough that you can roll out.

You can use store-bought chopped pecans, or whole pecans and chop them yourself.

I like to use grass-fed butter for an even more buttery taste, but regular butter works great. You can also use oil if necessary.

Coconut sugar is my favorite sweetener to use in my recipes, but brown sugar or cane sugar works great too.

Add in lots of cinnamon to really bring out that fall flavor.

A touch of vanilla extract adds a ton of flavor.

Maple syrup makes these pies even sweeter but also adds a nice caramel like flavor.

How To Make

ONE: Start by making the filling. In a large bowl add in the melted butter, coconut sugar, eggs, cinnamon, vanilla extract and maple syrup. Whisk well and then fold in chopped pecans.

TWO: roll out pie dough on a floured surface and use a circle cookie cutter, or the top of a glass to cut out circles. Add circles to muffin tins and mend to the edges.

THREE: Add about 1 tbsp of filling to each pie crust and then bake for 18-20 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool in the muffin tins for 15 minutes before removing them and enjoy!

Tips And Tricks

Taste And Texture

These mini pecan pies taste just like a standard size slice of pecan pie but better in my opinion. The crust to filling ratio is perfect for every single bite. You have a buttery, flakey crust that is filled with a warm, sweet pecan filling.

The texture is crispy on the edges and the center is warm and crunchy.

Excited to make these!! Do you have any substitutes to make it gluten free?

Hi Annie! Yes totally, just use a gluten free pie crust from the store!! King Arthur also has a good GF pie mix. I’d google “refrigerated pie crust near me” and you’ll find the nearest store! that’s what i always do! otherwise you could instead make my gluten free pecan pie bars but in muffin tins 🙂
