Ingredients And Substitutions
These are the main ingredients and substitutions for Vegan Chocolate Chip Tahini Cookies. Scroll down to the recipe card for a full list of ingredients and instructions.
The base of this cookie recipe is made with creamy tahini. You can however substitute for any type of nut or seed butter like almond butter, cashew butter or peanut butter, but that will change the taste of these cookies.
Pure Maple syrup is my favorite sweetener to use in my recipes, it’s refined sugar free and adds a lovely flavor to these cookies. Alternatively, you can use honey, agave or even date syrup. But please note that this sweetener change will change the flavor of these cookies.
Vanilla extract adds flavor to any baked good.
Almond flour is a grain free flour that gives such a yummy nutty flavor and light texture to these cookies. I always get a big bag of it through amazon for the best price.
To keep this recipe gluten free use a 1:1 gluten free flour such as Bob’s Red Mill or Kings Arthurs. Alternatively, if you aren’t gluten free you can also use all purpose flour.
Baking powder adds a lovely texture to these cookies and helps them rise during baking time.
Chocolate chips are chopped up to create both chocolate chunks so you have a piece in every bite. Make sure you use dairy free to keep this recipe vegan.

How To Make
ONE: In a bowl, add in the tahini, maple syrup and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.

TWO: Next, add in the almond flour, gluten free flour and baking powder.

THREE: Fold in the chocolate chips last and add dough to a baking sheet that’s lined with parchment paper.

FOUR: Flatten the tops with the palm of your hands and bake.

FIVE: After the cookies are done baking, remove from the oven and sprinkle with flakey sea salt.

Tips And Tricks
Make sure to combine all the wet ingredients first before adding in the dry.
Flatten the tops of each cookie before baking, these won’t rise or spread a ton during baking.
I prefer to add both chocolate chips and chocolate chunks to these cookies so that you have a piece in every bite.
A sprinkle of flakey sea salt adds the perfect balance of saltiness to sweetness.
