Easy Slow Cooker Bone Broth Shredded Chicken (in a crockpot)
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 2 hours
Total Time 2 hours 5 minutes
Servings 6 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 to 2½ lb boneless skinless chicken breasts (can sub thighs)
  • 1½ cups chicken bone broth
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • Freshly cracked black pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  • Add the chicken to the crockpot in an even layer.
  • Sprinkle with salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and pepper.
  • Pour the bone broth over the chicken.
  • Cover and cook:
LOW for 3-4 hours or HIGH for 2-2½ hours,
until the chicken is very tender and easily shreds.
  • Shred the chicken directly in the slow cooker using two forks. Or place it in a stand mixer with the whisk attachment to shred chicken in seconds.
  • Let it sit in the broth for 5–10 minutes before storing so it soaks up the moisture.

Notes

  • Cooking time may vary slightly depending on crockpot size and thickness of the chicken.
  • Keeping some broth with the shredded chicken helps prevent it from drying out during storage.
  • This recipe doubles easily if you’re meal prepping for the week.
  • Boneless skinless chicken thighs can be used instead of breasts for a slightly richer flavor.
