Banana Bread Protein Bites
If you love banana bread but want something a little more snackable, these Banana Bread Protein Bites are about to become your new favorite freezer treat. They have all the cozy banana bread flavor you love packed into bite-sized balls with a creamy almond butter center and crisp dark chocolate shell.

These are the kind of snacks I keep stocked in the fridge or freezer at all times because they’re quick to grab, made with simple ingredients, and genuinely taste like a slice of banana bread. The banana and cinnamon combo gives them that nostalgic homemade banana bread flavor, while the chocolate coating makes them feel extra indulgent. If you love recipes like my Banana Snickers, Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins, or homemade freezer bites, these fit right in.
What I also love about these is how customizable they are. You can top them with flaky salt, crushed nuts, or even a little cinnamon dusting depending on your mood. They remind me of the same cozy flavor vibes as banana bread but in a no-bake form that’s perfect for curbing those sweet cravings anytime they hit.

How to Make
In a bowl, mash the banana until smooth. Add almond butter, maple syrup, and vanilla bean paste. Stir until creamy.

Fold in the protein powder, oat flour, cinnamon, and salt. Mix until a thick dough forms.

Scoop and roll into equal-sized balls. Place onto a parchment-lined tray or plate.

Freeze until firm. Melt the dark chocolate and coconut oil together until smooth.

Dip each protein bite into the melted chocolate.

Sprinkle with flaky salt or crushed nuts while the chocolate is still wet.

Refrigerate or freeze until the chocolate shell hardens.

Tips and Tricks
- If the dough feels sticky, add 1–2 extra tablespoons oat flour.
- Freeze the bites before dipping to help them hold their shape.
- Drizzle extra melted chocolate over the tops for a bakery-style finish.
- Use extra ripe bananas for the best banana bread flavor.

This recipe is so incredibly delicious! I kept eating the batter before I even finished it! The only thing is I was not able to form my “dough” into balls. Even after freezing, but it’s okay because they tasted so good!

How to Save and Store
Store the protein bites in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or in the freezer for up to 2 months. I personally love them straight from the freezer because the texture turns extra fudgy and chewy.

- 1 tsp vanilla bean paste (or vanilla extract)
- ¾ cup vanilla protein powder (I used Ritual)
- ½ cup oat flour
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
Chocolate Coating
- 1 cup dark chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate
- 1 tsp coconut oil
Optional Toppings
- Flaky salt
- Crushed walnuts or pecans
- Cinnamon dusting
Instructions
- In a bowl, mash the banana until smooth.
- Add almond butter, maple syrup, and vanilla bean paste. Stir until creamy.
- Fold in the protein powder, oat flour, cinnamon, and salt. Mix until a thick dough forms.
- Scoop and roll into 10 equal-sized balls. Place onto a parchment-lined tray or plate.
- Freeze for 20–30 minutes until firm.
- Melt the dark chocolate and coconut oil together until smooth.
- Dip each protein bite into the melted chocolate, letting the excess drip off.
- Place back onto parchment paper and sprinkle with flaky salt or crushed nuts while the chocolate is still wet.
- Refrigerate or freeze until the chocolate shell hardens.
Notes
- All protein powders differ, I used Ritual vanilla for the best dough like texture. I did try these with FlavCity and had a hard time forming a dough. So just be aware of that before starting!
- You can swap almond butter for any other nut or seed butter.
- A sprinkle of flaky salt before the chocolate hardens balances the sweetness perfectly.

Tried these out today and YUM! My toddler approves too. We used peanut butter and Promix vanilla whey protein powder because that’s what I had on hand. Similar to the note about Flave City, I couldn’t form balls with the dough using Promix, even after adding some extra flour. We just made a quick pivot — froze the “lumps” of dough for about 15min until they were firm enough to re-mold into balls, froze the newly-formed balls for 5 more minutes and dipped. Will definitely be making these again!

hehehe i’ve had that problem myself too, it’s good to eat by the spoonful! and yes the protein powders all absorb the liquid differently. but so glad you were able to troubleshoot! xx
Made these and they turned out amazing!😍 10/10 so easy to make and the perfect guilt free snack
Hi Camille! Amazing to hear! so glad you enjoyed them!!!
These have good flavor but this recipe needs to be reworked unless using the specific brand of protein powder you recommended. I added triple the amount of flour and still couldn’t manage to form them into balls.
Hi Meaghan, yes that’s because pea protein powder absorbs liquid more than whey. I’m not sure what brand you use, but after testing these 3 times I landing on pea protein base being the best option. Another reader mentioned she was able to freeze her dough and then roll into balls. You could also try adding in coconut flour which absorbs liquid. Hope that helps!
