Ingredients And Substitutions

These are the main ingredients and substitutions for Cake Mix Cake Pops. Scroll down to the recipe card for a full list of ingredients and instructions.

You can use any flavored standard cake mix box for this recipe. I used strawberry but feel free to use vanilla, chocolate, funfetti, etc!

When choosing a frosting, you can make your own buttercream from scratch, however since you only need a small amount I recommend just using store bought frosting. Choose a flavor that makes sense based on the cake you are using.

Candy melts are high recommended for cake pops. These melt easily and then also dry quickly making them easy to wrap and stay out on the counter with no refrigeration for an event.

Tips And Tricks

Chilling the cake it optimal for creating these cake pops. This allows the cake to become extra moist and bind together without having to use too much frosting.

If done right, you should only need a small spoonful of frosting.

If for some reason your cake isn’t binding together, don’t be afraid to add in a touch more frosting until it reaches a play dough consistency.

Once you have added the sticks into the cake pops, chill them for 10 minutes to ensure the stick is fully binded.

Add sprinkles on the cake pops immediately after dipping if desired.

You can use a styrofoam sheet to make standing cake pops or place them face down.
