Ingredients And Substitutions

These are the main ingredients and substitutions for PF Changs Chicken Lettuce Wraps. Scroll down to the recipe card for a full list of ingredients and instructions.

I like to use extra lean ground chicken for a healthier option, but if you want it to be more juicy and flavorful then you can opt for one that has more fat.

Sesame seed oil is going to add a lovely toasty flavor to the ground chicken and the sauce. This oil is strongly encouraged, however you can substitute for a any other oil if preferred, avocado or coconut is recommended.

Use a shallot or finely diced yellow onion which is sweeter than a red onion but still adds a nice flavor and crunch.

For the best flavor I recommend using freshly grated ginger, however, you can substitute for ground ginger if preferred.

Fresh garlic is also recommended, but can substitute for ground garlic if needed.

Grab a can of water chestnuts from the store, these are found in the asian section in a can.

Green onions will add both color and flavor to these chicken lettuce wraps.

Look for bright green and vibrant butter lettuce.

The sauce is made with hoisin sauce which is sweet but savory. This is also found in the Asian section at most grocery stores.

Honey will add a bit of sweetness and flavor. You can opt for agave, maple syrup or even hot honey for added heat.

Soy sauce is recommended but you can substitute for coconut aminos if desired. This will add more sweetness than soy sauce. Use Gluten Free Soy sauce to keep this recipe gluten free.

Rice wine vinegar will add the perfect touch of acidity. Alternatively, you can use red wine vinegar, apple cider vinegar or even white distilled vinegar.

Add in sriracha for a touch of spice and flavor.

For a bit of crunch, add on crunchy chow mien before serving.
