I have to say, my air fryer is hands-down one of my favorite kitchen tools. It’s fast, versatile, and makes cleanup a breeze. Whether I’m roasting veggies, crisping up leftovers, or making these fajitas, the air fryer consistently delivers. This recipe is part of my “Dinner in a Pinch” series I’ve been sharing over on Instagram, where I highlight super simple meals for busy nights. And honestly, the air fryer has become my secret weapon for making dinner stress-free. It’s especially helpful on those hectic evenings when I’ve got a million things going on and no time to babysit a stovetop!
These air fryer chicken fajitas are fast, flavorful, and incredibly versatile. In just 15 minutes, you can have perfectly cooked chicken, tender-crisp peppers, and onions infused with bold taco seasoning. They’re a one-basket wonder, meaning minimal prep and cleanup, (literally just toss the air fryer basket in the dishwasher when you’re done) which is exactly what busy weeknights call for. Whether you’re serving them as-is or building loaded fajita bowls or tacos with your favorite toppings, this recipe is a foolproof way to get a delicious dinner on the table in no time.
Don’t have an air fryer? No problem- Try my oven baked one pan chicken and peppers instead!

Ingredients You’ll Need for Air Fryer Chicken Fajitas
- Chicken Breast (cut into strips): The star of this dish, chicken breast provides lean protein and cooks quickly in the air fryer. Be sure to cut it into thin, even strips to ensure it cooks evenly and stays juicy. For extra flavor, you can marinate the chicken in a bit of lime juice and oil before seasoning.
- Bell Peppers (any color, sliced): Bell peppers add a vibrant, slightly sweet crunch that pairs perfectly with the seasoned chicken. Use a mix of colors—like red, yellow, and green—for a beautiful, colorful presentation. Slice them into thin strips so they cook evenly and develop a slight char in the air fryer.
- Red Onion (sliced): Onions add a savory, caramelized depth of flavor to the fajitas. Slice them thinly so they cook to tender perfection alongside the peppers.
- Taco Seasoning (store-bought or homemade): The seasoning is what ties everything together, infusing the chicken and veggies with bold, smoky flavors. Store-bought taco seasoning is a convenient option, but you can also whip up a homemade blend using chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, and a pinch of cayenne for some heat. Adjust the seasoning to your taste for a personalized touch.
- Garlic (minced): Fresh garlic adds an extra layer of flavor to the fajitas, bringing a rich, aromatic kick that complements the taco seasoning. Toss a couple of minced cloves with the chicken and veggies for a more robust flavor profile.
- Oil (such as olive oil or avocado oil): A drizzle of oil helps the taco seasoning stick to the chicken and vegetables while ensuring everything cooks to golden, caramelized perfection in the air fryer. Olive oil adds a hint of fruitiness, while avocado oil is a great option for its high smoke point.
These simple, wholesome ingredients come together to create a delicious, fuss-free meal. The beauty of this recipe is its flexibility—you can easily swap in your favorite veggies or adjust the spice level to suit your preferences, making it perfect for any weeknight dinner!

How to make Chicken Fajitas
Prep the ingredients: Toss the chicken, peppers, and onions in a bowl with oil and taco seasoning, ensuring everything is well-coated.

Load the air fryer: Place the seasoned mixture into the air fryer basket, spreading it out evenly.

Cook: Air fry at 390F for 15 minutes, tossing halfway through. Check internal temp to ensure it’s 165F, if not air fry for 3 more minutes.

Serve: Enjoy as-is, or load up tortillas with your favorite toppings like lettuce, cheese, guacamole, Greek yogurt, or sour cream.

Tips and Tricks
- Preheat your air fryer: For the best results, preheat your air fryer to 400F before adding the chicken and veggies. This helps them cook evenly and develop that slightly charred, caramelized texture that makes fajitas so delicious.
- Adjust the seasoning to your taste: Customize the flavor to suit your preferences! If you love an extra kick, sprinkle in a pinch of cayenne pepper or chili powder to the taco seasoning. For a smoky depth, a dash of smoked paprika works wonders.
- Use fresh lime juice: Squeeze fresh lime juice over the cooked fajitas before serving. It brightens the flavors and gives the dish that authentic fajita taste, perfectly balancing the spices and richness of the ingredients.
