Ground chicken is hearty and high protein, you can easily swap for ground turkey or beef if desired.

Carrots, celery and white onion make up the veggies in this dish. But zucchini or squash would also taste great in it!

Fresh garlic and garlic powder will add a ton of flavor. I highly recommend using both for this recipe.

I love this recipe because it uses a standard jar of marinara sauce, but we’ll jazz it up with seasonings like onion powder and Italian seasoning.

This bolognese would also be good with zoodles, spaghetti squash, quinoa, rice, on toast, or on your favorite pasta shape- I did the classic spaghetti

How To Make

Cook onions, carrots, celery on the stovetop until tender.

Add in garlic and ground chicken and cook until no longer pink.

Pour in marinara sauce and mix in seasonings. Simmer for 5-10 minutes.

Serve over spaghetti and enjoy with fresh basil and parmesan cheese.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 cup diced white onion, about 1/2 onion
  • 1 cup diced celery, about 1 small stalk
  • 1 cup diced carrots, about 2 large carrots
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1 (25oz) jar of marinara sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 (16oz) box of spaghetti
  • serve with fresh basil and parmesan cheese

Directions

  1. Start by boiling the water and cooking pasta al a dente.
  2. In a large sauté pan over medium low heat, add in 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil. Once hot, add in the white onion and cook for 2-3 minutes or until translucent.
  3. Add in the diced carrots and celery next and mix until well incorporated. Sauté for 3-4 minutes more or until veggies are tender. Mix in the minced garlic.
  4. Make a well in the center and add in the ground chicken. Break it up into small pieces and mix well with the veggies. Keep stirring occasionally until chicken is no longer pink.
  5. Add in the marinara sauce and mix in the seasonings. Turn heat to low and let simmer for 10 minutes to allow the sauce to soak into the meat and flavors marinate.
  6. When ready, serve over cooked pasta and top with fresh basil and parmesan cheese.
