How to Make Baked Boursin Skillet
In a large oven-safe baking dish, combine the orzo, sliced chicken sausage, cherry tomatoes, zucchini, bell pepper, garlic, olive oil, and broth.

Place the whole Boursin cheese in the center of the dish. Cover and bake. Smash the softened Boursin into the orzo mixture and stir until everything is creamy and well combined.

Season with extra salt and pepper if needed, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve warm.

Tips & Tricks for the Best Baked Boursin Orzo
Swap the Veggies: This recipe is super flexible. Try spinach, mushrooms, broccoli, or even roasted red peppers if that’s what you have on hand.
Adjust the Creaminess: If the orzo looks a little watery after baking, just pop it back into the oven uncovered for 5 minutes, then stir again. On the flip side, if it feels too thick, add a splash of warm broth before mixing in the cheese.
Make it Vegetarian: Skip the chicken sausage and add extra veggies or a plant-based sausage alternative. The Boursin brings plenty of flavor on its own.
Meal Prep Friendly: This dish reheats really well — the flavors get even better the next day. Just add a splash of broth or water when reheating to bring it back to life.
How to Store Baked Boursin Orzo
- Refrigerator: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. The flavors deepen as it sits, making it even better the next day.
- Freezer: You can freeze portions in freezer-safe containers for up to 2 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating.
- Reheating: Warm in the microwave or on the stovetop with a splash of broth or water to bring the creaminess back.

One-Pan Baked Boursin with Orzo and Chicken Sausage
Ingredients
- 1 package chicken sausage (sliced)
- 1 Boursin cheese (garlic & fine herbs or shallot & chive)
- 1 ½ cups dry orzo
- 3 cups chicken broth
- 1 pint cherry tomatoes (halved)
- 1 medium zucchini (diced)
- 1 bell pepper (red or yellow, chopped into bite-sized pieces)
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Salt & pepper (to taste)
- Fresh parsley or basil (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F.
- In a large oven-safe baking dish, add in the dried orzo, sliced chicken sausage, cherry tomatoes, zucchini, bell pepper, garlic, olive oil, and broth.
- Season lightly with salt and pepper, then stir to combine.
- Place the whole Boursin cheese in the center of the dish. Cover with foil and bake for 25–30 minutes, until orzo is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed.
- Remove from oven, uncover, and use a spoon to smash the softened Boursin into the orzo mixture. Stir everything together until creamy. If still watery, return to oven for 5 more minutes.
- Stir again and let sit, mixture will thicken. Season with more salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with fresh parsley or basil and serve warm!
Notes
- Type of Sausage – Any fully cooked chicken sausage works here (garlic herb, spicy, or even apple chicken sausage). You can also swap in turkey sausage or a plant-based option.
- Crispy Sausage Option – If you prefer your chicken sausage browned and crisp, pan-fry the slices in a little olive oil before adding them to the baking dish.
- Oven-Safe Dish Tip – Make sure your baking dish is deep enough so the broth doesn’t bubble over while baking. A 9×13 pan or a large oven-safe skillet works best.
- Cheese Options – Garlic & Fine Herbs and Shallot & Chive Boursin are my favorites, but you can experiment with other flavors for a different spin.

I made this too and had a problem with it. The amount of water (3 cups) was way too much 🙁 It didn’t all absorb and i had to dump it out and keep cooking it until it was overcooked 🙁 Agh. I would make it again with less water. The flavors were excellent though.
Hi Nicole! i’m so sorry you experienced this. I absolutely hate that it didn’t work out for you, I tested this recipe multiple times but will run it through another re-test. I appreciate your feedback!
This actually comes out really watery, but fear not, cook it for an additional 5 mins as instructed and let it sit for 10 minutes. It’ll thicken up really nicely! Flavor was great. I’ll add this to the rotation for dinner 🙂
