ingredients and Substitutions

These are the main ingredients and substitutions for Peanut Butter Burger. Be sure to scroll down to the recipe card at the bottom of this page for a full list of ingredients and instructions.

You can use ground turkey or beef for this recipe. You can also save some time by purchasing store-bought patties. Just be sure to add some seasoning to them.

Feel free to use your favorite type of cheese, as any of them will taste amazing. However, i’d stick to one that melts well like cheddar, pepper jack, swiss, provolone, or mozzarella. Cheeses like feta or blue cheese may overpower the burger so I would stay away from those for this recipe.

You will need a jar of Chipotle pepper in adobo sauce and your favorite type of mayo to make the spicy mayo.

Typically I stay away from peanut butters that have any palm oil in them, but for this burger specifically I would recommend using a creamy peanut butter over a natural one. This is going to add much more flavor to the burger.

The rest of the toppings are traditional such as lettuce, tomatoes, red onion and pickles (choose a more traditional pickles instead of a flavored one).

Use your favorite type of hamburger bun, I opted for more of a traditional but you can also use something sweeter like Hawaiian, whole wheat, sesame seed, or gluten-free if needed.

all the ingredients that you need to make these peanut butter and chipotle turkey burgers.

how to make

ONE: Despite looking fancy, these burgers are incredibly easy to make. First, prep the chipotle mayo sauce by combining mayo and the jar of chipotle peppers in a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth and creamy and set aside.

TWO: Next, prepare the burgers. If using ground meat, add in your favorite seasoning. I like to keep it simple with garlic salt and pepper. If you are using store-bought patties, sprinkle some seasoning on top before cooking.

THREE: When the turkey burgers are no longer pink in the middle, add on your favorite cheese and remove once they have just melted. Feel free to toast your bun at this point as well.

FOUR: Now it’s time to assemble. Place a heaping spoonful of peanut butter on the bottom bun, and a heaping spoonful of chipotle mayo on the top. Assemble the rest of your burger by adding on the cooked turkey patty, lettuce, tomato, red onion and pickles. Place the bun on top and enjoy!

Tips and tricks

Create your own spicy mayo for best results. Using the same jar of Chipotle Peppers blended with mayo creates a deliciously midly spicy mayo.

If using turkey, you know your burgers are fully cooked when there is no visible pink in the center and the internal temperature reads 165F.

Use creamy peanut butter rather than all natural peanut butter- this will add a lot more flavor and really enhance the experience.

Don’t shy away from adding a good heaping spoonful of both the peanut butter and chipotle sauce. Trust me, you really want a good amount of both of them.

How to serve and store

Server this burger with peanut butter on the bottom bun and chipotle mayo on the top bun. This is key to enhancing the experience and taste.

Enjoy with some homemade sweet potato chips, sweet potato fries or even some air fried french fries or air fried carrot fries!

Store the turkey burgers and all the toppings separately. When ready to re-heat, simply microwave the turkey burgers on a microwave safe plate for about 30-60 seconds (depending on your microwave). Then, you can toast your bun on the stove top and assemble your burger as normal.

Enjoy cooked turkey burgers within 3 days.

Taste and Texture

This Peanut Butter Burger is a wonderful explosion of flavors! It’s the perfect balance between sweet, salty, savory, smoky, creamy, and nutty, all at the same time. It’s seriously addictive.

I’ve introduced this burger to all my friends and family and although they were a little apprehensive at first, once they tried it they were all sold. I haven’t met one person who didn’t like it.

The texture is like your traditional burger, juicy, crunchy and insanely satisfying.

frequently asked questions

Can I use a beef patty instead of turkey?

Yes totally!

Can I add bacon to this burger?

YES! The more salty flavors the better.

Can I use cashew or almond butter instead of peanut butter?

I don’t see why not, however I have not tried this myself so I can’t tell you for sure how it would change the taste of the burger. Although the peanut flavor is very distinct which is what makes this burger. If you try a different nut butter, please let me know in the comments below!

Do we use the entire jar of chipotle peppers including the sauce? Or just to chipotle peppers without the sauce?
